Okay unpopular opinion:
Building vocabulary is more than just "narrating their day".
It's a strategic, multi-layered approach that literally sets our kids up for life-long language success.

But before we move on, a bit of a truth bomb for you:
Were you aware that most deaf and hard of hearing children start school with vocabularies significantly behind their hearing peers? (I know, pretty heartbreaking stuff...)

But, why is this?
Well, 80% of any child's language (and vocab) is built via the conversations they overhear around them. Conversations that a lot of the time, our deaf kids simply cannot access.

So if they're not accessing them. They're not accessing the vocab being used in them. And therefore the only words they know, are the ones explicitly taught to them.
Problematic, right?

Because the reality is.... a large vocabulary isn’t just “nice to have” or something we use to impress our mates (I mean, it can be that too 😂)
It’s actually one of the strongest predictors of literacy, comprehension, and long-term success for our kids. And when we learn how to teach it well and in a way that actually sticks?
Well, it's a bloody gammmmme changer!
