A self-paced workshop series that shows you how to build robust reading foundations from birth to safeguard future literacy skills and help your deaf child become a skilled and fluent reader.
Here's the thing...
You bring your deaf or hard of hearing baby home and you're drowning in information, right?
Get the devices on early. All waking hours. Focus on speech. More speech. Earlier speech. Speech, speech, speech!
But here's what nobody seems to be talking about... and they really should be.
The thing that actually underpins our child's ability to read and connect with the world around them meaningfully - isn't speech.
It's LANGUAGE.
More specifically? It's a strong, robust language foundation and a rich and varied vocabulary.
And the window to build that foundation starts wayyyyy earlier than most of us realise!
But the problem is we're not given a manual for how to do that - so we do what all parents do - we read to our kids the same way we were read to. Because that's what we know.
And yes those moments still matter (they really do!)...
But for our deaf and hard of hearing kids, reading the "standard" way is often not enough to ensure gaps are filled and a foundation is built.
Gaps we can't see.
Gaps that sit under the surface.
Gaps that people dismiss.
Until school turns the lights on and then they're impossible to ignore. And suddenly we're playing catch-up against a racing clock...
But what if I told you it doesn't have to be that way.
👉 We can read and engage with our kids in a way that intentionally builds language and vocabulary from the ground up.
👉 In a way that works regardless of what's happening with their devices, their wear time, their middle ear pathology or anything else going on in their world.
👉 In a way that takes a meaning-first, holistic approach to language and reading.
👉 In a way that safeguards their reading future and helps them hit the ground running when school starts.
Because the reality is, when school does start....
Most of our kids are put in an auditory phonics program designed for hearing kids.
A phonics program that assumes they already have strong language understanding and vocabulary AND the knowledge of all sounds in speech.
A phonics program that asks them to blend, segment, sound it out when they don't have the access to do that on the same basis as their peers.
Essentially, they are being asked to build a house on sand, while the rest of their hearing mates have a solid concrete slab ready to go.
We need to do better for our kids, and we can do better.
That's what this reading series is all about.
Hi, I'm Clare 👋🏼
I'm a Teacher of the Deaf with 16 years experience and I'm committed to showing families and educators how to raise thriving deaf and hard of hearing kids through a bilingual approach.
I'm also "Mum" to two wonderful boys - Billy (my 8 year old hearing son) and Frank (my 5 year old Auslan-first Deaf son who also has bilateral cochlear implants).
Both were taught to read using my framework outlined in this workshop series, and both now read 2-3 years above their age level.
Coincidence?
Not a chance.
I'm so pumped to bring this information to you so more and more of our kids can thrive in the literacy space.
Let's get cracking!

As parents, we're not explicitly taught how to read to our deaf kids - so quite often we're just making it up as we go along!
"Is this book even right for them?"
"How do I know this is working?"
"What if I'm missing something?"
"Why are they so disengaged?"
"Am I failing them?"
But imagine if....
✔ You knew exactly what to focus on at each stage (no more guessing, no more worry!)
✔ Reading was actually enjoyable (yes I'm serious!) because you knew what you were doing and could see the gains in real time!
✔ You had a simple, high-yield framework that ensured rich building of vocabulary and language understanding every single day (and you didn't need a masters degree to decipher it!)
✔ You could optimise everyday experiences and routines to build meaningful literacy skills (without the overwhelm!)
✔ You were more intuitive and confident in understanding where your child was at and where they were heading!
✔ Your child could hit the ground running at school instead of playing constant catch-up from the beginning
✔ Your knew how to support your child's classroom team with evidence-backed strategies, because you'd used them yourself and knew they worked!
This is 100% possible. And it's easier than you think.
What you will learn...

This workshop is perfect for you if:

-
You're a parent of a deaf/hard of hearing child (any age, birth through school-age) and you want to make sure they become confident readers
-
You're an educator supporting bilingual deaf students and you need a framework that actually works
-
You know a deaf child sitting in 'traditional phonics' but your gut is telling you it's not enough
-
You want practical strategies you can start using today - not just theory you'll never implement!
The reviews are in...
Clare is so easy to listen to and obviously a wealth of knowledge. The strategies were easy to see how to apply across multiple contexts.

This workshop was amazing! Clare presentation style is fantastic and she gets the point across in a way that sticks! I struggle to sit and listen to sessions that are just filled with information, but I didn't feel that once! Clare is amazing and if you have a deaf babe you need to do this ASAP!

What if my child uses hearing aids/cochlear implants?
This framework works for ALL deaf/hard of hearing kids, regardless of device use. It's about layering pathways, not choosing one over the other!
The real cost of "wait and see"...
I have spent most of my career as a Teacher of the Deaf in high school settings and I can tell you this for free.
If we don't focus on building our child's language foundations now...
✖️ They will start school without the vocabulary and comprehension skills needed to become lifelong fluent readers.
✖️ They will start school immediately "behind" their hearing peers, as most school reading programs assume a level of English vocabulary, language understanding and phonemic awareness (all of which are often not developed in our deaf and hard of hearing children)
✖️ They will start to view reading as a source of struggle and frustration
✖️ You will spend their school years (and a lot of money!) on 'catch up' intervention and programs - trying to fill gaps that could have been prevented.
✖️ They will start to form the belief that they're "not good at reading" - which shapes how they see themselves as learners...
So building the right foundations NOW - matters. And I'm here to show you exactly how to do that.

Your Investment.
