Our Deaf Kids Need To Be Kids!

Last week, Frank had 5 appointments.
I sent over 30 emails - to his future school, the audiologist, the speech therapist.

Every day has felt like a checklist of things to chase, decisions to make, and people to follow up with.

And I know this comes with the territory.
When we’re raising a deaf child, especially in a bilingual home, there’s a lot to stay on top of.
We want to give them the support they need, so they can thrive 🔥

But it’s so easy to get swallowed by it all, to feel like your entire relationship with your child becomes about services and strategies and scheduling.

So lately, I’ve been trying to intentionally make space every day for this kid, to just be a kid. Even on our big appointment days.
Where he gets to lead.
Where he plays, explores, and just does what he does best ❤️

Yesterday, we went to our family’s farm 🐐
And I filmed a moment of pure joy.
At one point he looked at me and said, “I love it here. Can we come back tomorrow? And the next day? And the next day?”

And that was the reminder I needed.

Yes, advocacy matters.
Yes, access matters.
But this ☝🏼his joy, his childhood, his freedom to just be a kid - this matters too.
And we need to fight for that just as much.
